DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Only 2 NEWS cameras were rolling as the man involved in a fatal dog mauling case was taken to jail Wednesday on another charge.
Andrew Nason, 30, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on child endangering and felonious assault charges following a 45 minute-long standoff; but the irony lies in how officers were able to get him out of the home.
“Mr. Nason if you want to be the top story on the news again, fine. We’ll go ahead and do it the hard way,” shouted Dayton Police on a bullhorn.
Dayton Police surrounded a South Smithville home just before 8 a.m. Nason was inside wanted for reportedly beating his girlfriend’s toddler in 2012. He tried to escape out a back window, but climbed back in once he realized the house was surrounded. For 45 minutes officers tried to coax him out of the home.
“We have a K9 here. We are going to force the door,” announced police.
Officers didn’t have to use force, but it took the threat of a dog, Montgomery County’s K9, to get him to come out.
“I came out! They didn’t have to kick that door,” said Nason as he was being taken into custody.
Nason denied the current charges.
“The subject arrested Mr. Andrew Nason has an extensive past with the Dayton Police Department,” stated Sgt. Daniel Williger.
In February 2014 Nason’s two dogs mauled his neighbor, 57-year-old Klonda Richey to death on East Bruce Avenue. He spent some time in jail for the crime.
As he was being taken to jail again, he had little to say as 2 NEWS cameras were rolling.
“The consequences certainly will be his to bear when he has his day in court,” said Sgt. Williger.
A woman who was inside the house at the time of the standoff was also taken into custody. No criminal charges have been filed against her.
Nason is set to appear in court Christmas Eve.
